Artist statement
Initially, art did not come naturally to me. I have always wanted to be an artist, but it took years of working hard, pushing through perfectionism, and experimenting with aesthetics to find my path.
I started falling in love with ceramics while working on a proportions study. I enjoyed the challenge of carving the large piece and started to get the medium. It started to click. I would go into the studio every day. Something about that piece completely drew me in and captured all my attention.
I enjoy a variety of mediums, but feel most at home with ceramics. I am particularly interested in shapes and texture, and how they interact.
My professional goal is to work toward maintaining a successful art practice. I would also like to teach art to others and help them achieve their visions. I want to be a role model, like the many I have had on my journey in art, including my first mentor, my aunt, who is an artist and an art professor.
